Seeking volunteers for spring cleaning in the Azalea Collection at the U. S. National Arboretum.
Tasks:  We will be dividing perennials, weeding and the usual pulling leaves out of the crowns of azaleas, some raking; some pruning.  This will be the 6th season of holding these work days. Not only are they extremely productive and helpful, but they are fun.

Date: Saturday, April 1st, 2017. 10am to 3pm.  Rain date: Saturday April 8th.  We will meet in the lobby of the Administration building between 9:45am and 10, then walk up to the garden from there.  Park in the visitor parking lot.

Qualifications: The desire to be outside and a love of gardening.  Seeking master gardeners or garden club members.  And ability to walk on medium to rugged terrain.

Bring: your own gardening gloves, water in a non-breakable container; and a lunch for lunch in the garden.  Dress in layers; maybe even wear a hat.  (label your things).  I will provide all tools. Wear sturdy close-toed shoes.

Before you leave home:  If you are wondering about the weather on April 1st, call 202-245-4523 the morning before you come in.  If it is misty rainy or undesirable in any way, I will cancel the 1st, and reschedule for the 8th.  (April 8th is the rain date only.)  This year's azalea bloom is about a week earlier than "normal" and so I expect we'll be seeing a lot of color.

Please send me an email to Barbara.Bullock@ars.usda.gov to tell me you'll be there or call my office and leave a message.  (202) 245-4511.
